Essential Oils with Children, babies and Infants

This is a very informative video about oils with our children. I love it because Dr. Hill is an amazing resource for oils and it's coming from a trusted medical background. I love the security I get from knowing that not only is it safe and natural for my children but it is recommended by an actual doctor.

I also have another resource for some good information on the use of EO's on children and babies. It comes from another doTERRA wellness advocate on her blog: https://doterraessentials4me.wordpress.com/about/

Visit her blog for more great info and the full post on EO's for children and babies.

Colds: Melaleuca, Lavender, lemon – Mix 1-2 drops of each oil and diffuse. Mix 1 drop of each oil in a carrier oil and massage on upper chest and back every 4 hours. May also diffuse 2 drops of Breathe for stuffiness.
Colic or tummy pains: Lavender, Digestzen, Fennel or Ginger. Mix 1 drop of one of these oils with a carrier oil and massage around belly button in a clockwise motion. May also add 1 drop of Lavender on spine. Other helpful oils are Marjoram, Bergamot, & Ylang Ylang. Do not apply all the oils at once. Try one at a time to see which oil is helpful.

Breathe

Oh how Breathe has saved my life in the last few days! My poor babies have been sick and congested. But using Breathe has been so helpful. As I type both of my boys have Breathe on their chests (diluted with coconut oil for their sensitive skin, don't forget to do that for children!) and I have it in my diffuser with On Guard (also great for colds) and frankincense to add some extra umph to the blend, and a little bit of lavender to soothe.

Breathe is discribed as a proprietary blend including laurel leaf, peppermint, eucalyptus, melaleuca, lemon, and ravensara cleanses and soothes the airways, and can easily be applied topically to the chest, back, or bottom of feet. Its pleasant aroma is calming to the senses and perfect for nighttime diffusion allowing for restful sleep.

And restful sleep it is! Since my baby has his cold worse than my toddler, who is getting much better now, we've been difusing my special little blend that includes breathe in it at night. A wonderful side effect to this? My wonderful sweet, but horribly loud, husband has not been snoring at all! After sleeping with this man for 5 years and constantly being woken up by what sounds like a dying bear most nights, I am so very pleased with this discovery and only wish I had found it sooner!

Breathe is also great for asthma! My friend, the wonderful person who got me into dōTERRA has asthma and she just loves this oil!

Frankincense

'When in doubt use frankincense!'
Frankincense is so cool! It has so many uses. I love that dōTERRA say's to use frankincense when in doubt.

I also LOVE the product description dōTERRA has.

  • Renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, Frankincense has extraordinary internal and external health benefits. In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. This centuries-old knowledge contributes to the modern uses of Frankincense today. It’s soothing and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks. As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to promote cellular health and immunity and can be consumed daily for these internal benefits. It also promotes a healthy inflammatory response and acts as an overall tonic to the body’s systems, helping them function optimally. When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense induces feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness. - http://www.doterratools.com/documents/Frankincense_Essential_Oil_Product_Information_Page.pdf
In all of the blogs and other essential resources I've found about Frankincense they literally list off just about anything you can think of for it's use, from skin issues and beautifying to mood lifting to serious ailments such as MRSA, cancer, and brain injuries.

One great thing about Frankincense is when it is used with other oils it amplifies them and helps them work better. And on top of that it has a wonderful warm spicy scent to it. I think I now know why the Wise men gave Frankincense as a gift to baby Jesus!

On Guard

I am seriously excited about this one. On Guard is a blend of 5 essential oils which are cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary and wild orange. It actually smells really good, it has a very citrus and cinnamon scent that is (in my own personal opinion) very pleasing.

And dōTERRA actually has a whole line of On Guard products! They have beadlets for internal consumption, protective throat drops (like cough drops), Foaming hand wash, whiting toothpaste, and cleaning products that include laundry detergent

I found this awesome blog that has 52 uses for On Guard!! The link to it is: Copyright © 2014 - Mama Kautz - Read more at: http://mamakautz.com/52-uses-doterras-guard-essential-oil/

Here are my favorite uses for On Guard from that list:

  • Mix with a Tbsp of water, gargle for 1 minute then swallow at the on-set of a sore throat.
  • Put several drops on a bowl of hot – hot water and Breathe in the vapors as it begins to volatilize when you have lung congestion.
  • Put on the soles children’s feet at night during cold & flu season to support immune system.
  • Put 50 drops in a spray bottle with 30 oz of distilled water. Shake often and use to sanitize kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
  • Diffuse in homes or business to kill air borne pathogens, inhibit mold and build immune systems.
  • Add 15 drops to every cup of corn starch, mix and sprinkle on carpet. Rake, leave for 1 hour then Vacuum for micro clean carpet. (I need to do this to my carpets!!!)
  • Mix a 2-3 drops of on guard and 2 drops of lemon EO with honey or agave in a teaspoon for a cold or cough relief medicine for kids.
  • Put several drops on the HVAC vents of a hotel room or office to kill airborne pathogens and germs.
And so much more!

Lemon

Lemon oil has SO many uses! I was able to find tons and tons of uses for lemon oil.

A great source of lemon oil uses is this website: https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/essential-oils/health-benefits-of-lemon-oil.html

Here is what I got from the website that I found very helpful!

Stress
Lemon oil is calming in nature and therefore helps in removing mental fatigue, exhaustion, dizziness, anxiety, nervousness and nervous tension. It has the ability to refresh the mind by creating a positive mindset and removing negative emotions. It is also believed that inhaling lemon oil helps in increasing concentration and alertness. You can defuse the oil into the air or rub onto your skin (feet, neck and shoulders).
Immune system
Lemon oil has a high vitamin content, which makes it a wonderful booster for the body’s immune system. It further stimulates white blood cells, thus increasing your ability to fight off diseases. Lemon oil also improves circulation throughout the body. Using lemon oil on a daily basis will help boost your immune system.
Asthma
It is believed that lemons are also useful for treating asthma, since inhaling the aroma of lemons can clear the nasal passages and sinuses, promoting good air flow and steady breathing. Defuse into the air or rub onto your chest.
Stomach ailments
Since lemon oil is carminative, it is used in the treatment of various stomach problems, including indigestion, acidity, upset stomach, and cramps. Rub onto your stomach or 2-3 drops in a glass of water.
Hair care
Lemon oil is also effective as a hair tonic. Many people use lemon oil to get strong, healthy and shiny hair. Lemon oil is also used to eliminate dandruff. Rub through wet hair before styling.
Fever
Lemon oil is effective against infectious diseases such as fever, malaria and typhoid. Rub on feet and back.
Cleaners
Lemon is a good cleaner, which is why it is used for cleansing the body, metal surfaces, dishes, and clothes. It is also a disinfectant, so it is commonly used for cleaning surfaces such as butcher’s knives and blocks that can get contaminated very easily.
Here is the doTERRA product information page! Always so helpful and interesting.

Lavender

A lot of people know that lavender helps you sleep, and it does! It is an amazing oils. But it does more than just help you sleep. Here are a few things that you can use it for:

Cuts, scrapes, minor burns and bug bites

  • For minor cuts and scrapes you can drop some oil in the cut to stop the bleeding. It will also disinfect the wound which will help keep it from getting infected.
  • For small burns you can add 2 to 3 drops to help reduce pain, redness and swelling.
  • For bug bites and stings add and hold a drop onto the bite/sting it will help reduce the swelling and stop the itching.

Eczema, Dandruff, dry or chapped skin

  • I suffer from eczema, especially in the winter. My hands will start getting it and they will itch and itch and peel like crazy! Then I was using Lavender to help calm Parker down and I noticed my hands started getting better! I didn't even know that Lavender would help with that! Nothing I've tried (and I swear I have tried EVERYTHING!) has worked, not even an Rx from the doctor. So I've got to say I'm pretty happy about this one.
  • You can use lavender oil on lots of dry itchy skin issues!

Nausea or motion sickness

  • I wish I had known about this earlier! To help with motion sickness and nausea, put one drop on end of your tongue, behind your ears or around your belly button.

Calming and sleep aid

  • And of course the most common of them all, Lavender oil does wonders for calming your mood, relieving stress and helps you sleep. To help you sleep spread a few drops on your pillow before bed.
  • For stress relieving and calming effects put a few drops on your hands then rub onto your neck and shoulders. I hope you enjoyed this first post of mine! Many more to come!

A new chapter in my life

I am starting a new chapter in my life. I had heard of a lot about essential oils for year. Although part of me was too lazy to learn about them and another part of me thought "I'm not a hippie! There's nothing wrong with over the counter medications!". Now there isn't anything wrong with over the counter medications, I use them all the time. But I really like the fact that I can use something more natural, and safe, and it is just as effective or even more. A big reason why I love the oils so much is because I can use them on my children without worry. And I love the power that something so natural has. Many of you who know me know that I am a researcher. Ever since I became a mother I have always felt the need to research and learn as much about the things in my life as I can. Usually it's parenting skills, organization tricks for my home, etc. So when I discovered dōTERRA I have been excited to learn more about the oils, first, and then the company. My goal here with this blog is to gather my information and share it with you. I like to research but I know not everyone has the time or patience to be able to do that and so I want to do it for you. Some of what I will share with you will be personal experiences and stories. Other posts will be the information I have gathered on specific oils, such as what to use them for and how. I really hope that this blog will be a good source of information for you and helpful in your own path to finding good health.
